Woodend Automotive Racing Team consists of Dave, Gemma, and Garet as service crew; a family racing team who compete in both Rallying and Motocross.

As a family Dave, Gemma, Garet, and Dave’s other daughter Jess all competed in MX in the 2000’s. Dave has still kept up, if not increased his involvement in both motocross and rallying, and has just competed in the NZ Vets and Ladies Championship and finished 3rd in the feature race – an accomplishment for someone who turns 68 very soon.

Dave has also competed at Glen Helen in the USA the last 2 years in the World Vet Champs and completed a 1200km trail ride last year in Australia – Darwin to Cape York over 6 days. Dave also competes regularly with Gemma as his co-driver in rallying. This year he has the Westland Rally, Otago Rally and Canterbury Rally coming up over the next 2–3 months.

Being a family run racing team travelling away together along with the team from Woodend Automotive it a great chance to add to the social camaraderie of the team.

These days Gemma is Dave’s co-driver for the main rallies and Garet takes on the role as service crew when time off the farm allows him to. The Woodend Automotive Racing Team team is run by Dave. Dave has had a long-serving passion of motorsports in Rallying, Circuit Racing and Motocross dating back to 1970s.

Dave returned to the rallying scene after a 20-year hiatus in 2015, where he was planning on just competing in club events after converting his daughters WRX into a rally car. His passion for rallying came back quickly and brought the “Woodend Automotive Racing Team” to life.

Racing under Woodend Automotive Racing Team they were able to make use of their state of the art workshop and wheel alignment facilities, as well as the automotive technicians joining them at rallies as the service team.
